International Archaeology Day 2019 Poster with a photo of an old boat and event details

Join fellow history and wildlife enthusiasts at San Marcos de Apalache Historic State Park in St. Marks to celebrate International Archaeology Day on October 26, 2019, 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.*

Enjoy the sights and sounds of living history and the culture of the panhandle region. We will celebrate local and national efforts to preserve, protect, and interpret the stories of the past.

This is a family-friendly event that will be interesting for all ages! There will be many interactivities for children such as pinch pottery, atlatl throwing, and touching artifacts found during local archaeological digs. Visitors will get a view into the life of the 1830s Seminole Indian camp. They can visit with soldiers from the British-American War and the Civil War and hear a real cannon shot from the 18th century. Then they can take a stroll along the Wakulla River or enjoy a guided tour around the Fort.

International Archaeology Day was initiated by the Archaeological Institute of America to help raise awareness about archaeology. 2019 marks the eighth year that the National Park Service and Florida State Parks have partnered for this International Archaeology Day event. For more information about San Marcos de Apalache Historic State Park, contact Bonnie Allen at 850.925.6216 or visit the park website at https://www.floridastateparks.org.

*Transportation from the St. Marks Stone Crab Festival to the Fort will be provided by tram service.
