Wonders of the Aucilla
Wildlife Management Areawith Morgan Wilbur
The Aucilla WMA lies between the Aucilla and Wacissa rivers east of St. Marks National Wildlife Refuge. Two rivers, numerous springs and miles of trails create memorable visits. The area is one of the earliest sites of human habitation in North America and abounds with archeological sites.
Everything from bears to bream inhabit this Great Florida Birding and Wildlife Trail. The mature hardwood forest is managed to preserve native plants and animals..
WMA Manager Morgan Wilbur’s job is keeping track of research and restoration activities: such as ground cover restoration, timber management, the wildlife and vegetation management programs, ephemeral pond restoration, prescribed fire, and the goals that drive those activities. He’ll share the history of the Aucilla WMA, recreational opportunities, cultural/archaeological resources, and rare plants.
