When the days get longer and the weather starts to heat up, it means that everyone is gearing up for the annual Sopchoppy 4th of July Celebration in Wakulla County. This landmark event will take place in downtown Sopchoppy, FL all day long on July 4, 2017.

One of Wakulla County’s Most Cherished Traditions

We may not have purple mountain majesties in Florida, but that doesn’t mean we don’t know how to throw an incredible party to celebrate this country’s independence! At the heart of the festivities is the annual Sopchoppy 4th of July Celebration, which has been a tradition for locals and visitors alike for decades.

The event was first organized in 1973 by Bill Stephens, who is affectionately known by the locals as “Mr. Sopchoppy,” because of his numerous contributions to the community. He and a group of friends decided to create a new 4th of July tradition for the town that would end up lasting for decades.

A Full Day of Entertainment

The Sopchoppy 4th of July Celebration kicks off on the morning of July 4th with the classic parade known as “A Real & True Americana” parade. This spectacular event travels down Rose Street in downtown Sopchoppy, and features a collection of diverse floats, displays, and performances from numerous local groups and organizations.

Then, after the parade ends, the fun continues. You and your loved ones can spend the remainder of the day near the banks of the beautiful Sopchoppy River at Myron B. Hodge City Park. Dance along to the patriotic live music, browse independence-themed wares of local merchants and arts and crafts vendors, and check out the various exhibits that celebrate the founding and history of this great nation.

A Fireworks Spectacular Worthy of the Red, White, and Blue

We hope you’re in the mood for even more 4th of July fun because the entire celebration is capped off by a thrilling fireworks display full of American pride. There will be great views of the fireworks all around the park, so grab a seat and watch as the stunning fireworks light up the night sky as well as illuminate the surface of the Sopchoppy River.
